Engagement Photos In Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을)

Updated: Sep 27, 2018

Cha-teaul Teahouse

We took our engagement photos in an area of Seoul called Bukchon Hanok Village which is located right next to Gyeongbokgung Palace (also another great tourist destination). We used a fantastic photographer name Allen who was so easy to work with and produced stunning work from a company called Studio Lumiere. Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of traditional houses, called hanok, that date back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) . The name Bukchon translates to "northern village" as it is located in a neighborhood north of two significant Seoul landmarks called the Cheonggyecheon Stream and Jongno. Today many of the hanoks operate as tea houses, guesthouses, cultural centers and restaurants for the many visitors looking to experience and immerse themselves in traditional Korean Culture.

During our photoshoot we went to one incredibly beautiful teahouse called Cha-teul. We ordered a flower iced tea that came in these beautiful flowered drinking glasses and a green tea that came in a glass teakettle. They do also serve small treats that you can have alongside your tea. I was even able to do a wardrobe change in their bathroom in order to diversify our photos a bit.

We went in morning around 9:00 AM to start the photoshoot as there are tons of tourist groups that filter through the back streets and it's a little harder to get the right shot. The Cha-teaul Teahouse opens at 11:00 AM and closes around 10:30 PM so you can fit this stop into any of your travel plans.

I would also recommend traveling down the main street in Bukchon Hanok Village and visiting some of the cute boutiques. One of my favorite being GRANHAND, which sells the best candles and defusers around. The smells are absolutely intoxicating and fill up large rooms extremely well. My favorite scent is Lucy Diamond. Definitely be sure to pop your head into this super cute shop. (Map at the bottom of the article.)
